J. Michael Godin, D.V.M., Awards Chairman Effective 5-1-1993 Revised The Texas Coastal Brittany Club’s (TCBC) awards of the year were established in 1972 because of the interest of club members in establishing an annual awards program to recognize the TCBC’s outstanding Brittanys. The program is designed to stimulate additional interest in field trial, hunting test, show and obedience events, and give due credit to the purebred dogs that have distinguished themselves in these areas. The awards will be given each year at the summer social. The Awards Committee is responsible for procuring trophies and placing an ad in The American Brittany naming the dogs of the year. All dogs finishing titles in any category during the point accumulation period will receive a certificate at the summer social also. The point accumulation period will run from May 1 of a given year through April 30 of the following year, and to be counted, the accumulated point totals must be submitted to the Awards Committee chairman by midnight on May 15 of the following year. Owners are encouraged to submit points to the Awards Committee chairman as they are acquired during the year. The principle owner (who is funding the dog) of the dog must be a TCBC member or in the immediate family (member’s spouse or dependent children under 21) of a member. Placements will be counted only while the dog is owned by a TCBC member. Points may be transferred to a new owner if the new owner is a TCBC member at the time of ownership transfer. For the purpose of these awards only, the membership date will be the date that the application and the dues are received by the club secretary/treasurer. The secretary/treasurer is responsible for maintaining accurate records concerning date of the membership. Categories (click title to see specific rules):
The intent of the award in this category is to recognize the most accomplished dog in field trials regardless of the stake and handler. Therefore, points can be accumulated in both Amateur and Open stakes. Entries: Dogs can be entered in any stake, open or amateur, except Puppy and Derby. Dogs must be entered in American Kennel Club (AKC) licensed field trials open to Brittanys or American Field trials (excluding shoot-to-retrieve trials) open to Brittanys, and must have at least one first-place win in above stated trials during the year. Scoring is defined in a later paragraph. The intent of the award in this category is to recognize the most accomplished dog in field trials handled only by an amateur. Therefore, points can be accumulated in both Amateur and Open stakes ONLY IF the dog is handled by an amateur. Entries: Dogs can be entered in any stake, open or amateur, except Puppy and Derby. The handler must be an amateur as defined by the AKC or the Amateur Field Trial Club of America (AFTCA), depending upon which organization sanctioned the event. Dogs must be entered in AKC licensed field trials open to Brittanys or American Field trials excluding shoot-to-retrieve trials) open to Brittanys, and must be awarded at least one championship point (open or amateur) in above stated trials during the year. For example, a dog placing second in an Amateur stake with 13 starters would receive one championship point. Scoring is defined in a later paragraph. Field Trial Dog and Amateur Field Trial Dog Scoring: Award point scoring will be based on the number of dogs competing and final placement in a given stake. The dog winning first place will receive 8 points for each dog competing, second place will receive 6 points for each dog competing, third place will receive 4 points for each dog competing and fourth place will receive 2 points for each dog competing. No points will be allowed toward the Field Trial Dog or Amateur Field Trial Dog award for stakes in which less than 4 dogs compete. A dog must receive at least 50 points in these categories with at least 25 points in the total being received at an American Brittany Club (ABC) licensed field trial. The scoring is based on thirty-minute stakes. Example: In any stake in which 20 dogs are competing, the winning dog would receive 20 x 8, or 160 points. The second place dog would receive 20 x 6, or 120 points, the third place dog would receive 20 x 4, or 80 points, and the fourth place dog would receive 20 x 2, or 40 points. Bonus: Dogs placing in trials with one-hour or longer stakes will receive double points (ABC classic, American Field, or any AKC recognized stake). If a stake is an American Field championship stake, and if a champion, or a champion and a runner-up are named, all placed dogs will receive double points. All dogs placed in ABC National Championships will receive triple points. Bonus points will be given for finishing a Championship during the year of competition in each category:
Entries: Dogs must be entered in AKC sanctioned shows where AKC championship points are awarded and entries are not limited by age. During the year, class dogs must have been awarded at least one AKC championship point. Scoring: Award point scoring will be based on the number of Brittanys officially competing and final placement in each show. A dog must receive at least 50 points in this category to be eligible. In the classes, each placed dog will receive five points for each dog defeated. For example, a dog judged second in a class of 10 dogs will receive 40 points (5 points x 8 dogs defeated). The first place dog will receive 45 points (5 points x 9 dogs defeated). Winner’s Dog will receive 5 points for each other male class dog competing, and so on through Best of Breed. However, points are not cumulative. Only the highest level of points attained will be counted. For bench Champions of Record, 8 points will be awarded for each dog defeated. Bonus: For placements at the ABC National Specialty, the above point schedule will be doubled. Additionally, any dog receiving an Award of Merit will receive 5 points for each dog defeated (all dogs failing to make the final cut). Bonus points will be given for group placements and best in show at all breed shows. Catalog pages, including name of judge, name and date of show, must be provided for group placements and best in show wins.
One hundred (100) bonus points will be given for finishing a Championship during the year of competition. Entries: Dogs must be entered in AKC sanctioned obedience trials. Scoring: Award point scoring for a trial will be based on the score received, plus any placement, plus any award.
Example: A dog that received a 198 score and first place in Open B, a 190 score and second place in Utility B, was High in Trial and High Combined Open and Utility, would accumulate 61 points (7+8+5+6+15+20=61). Bonus: For placements at the ABC National Specialty, the above point schedule will be doubled. Bonus points will be given for earning a title in each category. If more than one title is earned during the year, points from each earned title will be accumulated toward the award.
In case of a tie, all passing scores will be averaged and the highest average will prevail. Entries: Dogs must be entered in AKC licensed hunting tests. Scoring: Award point scoring will be based upon the average of not more than four tests passed during the year. A dog with a hunting title can accumulate points by further participation in hunting tests at the same level or higher level. The points earned for passing one leg of each level will be:
Bonus: Points will be given for earning a Hunting Test Title in each category:
