“If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life” – Roger Caras

Dog Shows (Conformation events) are a way for Brittanys to compete against other Brittanys, and other dog breeds. The dogs are judged against an “ideal Brittany”, according to the AKC Breed Standard for the Brittany.

  1. Mary Crawford reported on our club’s specialty show at Reliant in July; this is from the September Paw Prints:
“Our summer specialty show was again successful. The entry had a 4-point major in bitches, 2 points in dogs and a large showing of some of the top champions in the country. We thank our many Brittany friends and supporters from Texas and out of state entrants from Louisiana, Oklahoma, Idaho, Colorado, California, New Mexico and Maryland. Dr. Judith A. Newton judged her 5 sweepstakes entries and Mr. Jon R. Cole did his usual superb job of judging his 6 dogs, 10 bitches and 11 champions in the breed ring.”

  2. The report on the Spring Specialty Show, by Mary Crawford, which appeared in the April Paw Prints:

Our spring specialty show was again held with the Houston Combined Specialty Association shows at the Houston Farm & Ranch Club in Houston, Texas. The weather was spring-like, breezy and the arena was in great shape. We sincerely thank our judge and our Brittany friends and supporters for attending this show.

Mrs. Linda Riedel from Pasco, WA did an excellent job of judging her 10 entrants. During my visit with her, I learned that she has been judging Britts for many years, having judged a large specialty show for Maxwell and Lee Riddle in years past.

She selected Hickory Hill’s Rhythm of the Road as her Winners Dog, bred and owned by Anne & Marla Parchman from Moore, TX. She selected My Embi Somewhere in Time Stks bred and owned by Tom and Sandy Schrank from Georgetown, TX as her Winners Bitch and Best of Winners.

From the field of 5 champions, Best of Breed was awarded to GCH Dual Lanes Cam JH owned by Christopher and Leslie Robinson and Katherine Sullivan and Best of Opposite Sex was awarded to CH Hickory Hill’s Carried Away bred and owned by Anne and Marla Parchman.

Thank you to all who attended our show especially our ring steward Sandy Faulkner and her assistant Barbara Steele.

AND, we cannot forget our generous trophy donors Steve Hintzel, Fred Brooks, Larry & Patricia Mankin, Robert Power and Jim & Mary Crawford. Thank you for supporting our show. Hope to see you in July at the Reliant Center!
